A free family tree app for families that don’t fit a template
Every family, drawn the way it really is.
Second marriages, half-siblings, cousins who married cousins. All of it, with you in the middle.
No account needed to start. Already on another app? Bring your tree.
Drawn from where you stand
The same tree. Everyone sees their own.
Papa is somebody’s son and somebody’s chacha. Each person opens the tree and sees the names they use.
Both marriages. Everyone stays.
A second marriage, step-children, half-siblings
Both marriages. Everyone’s children.
Other apps make you pick one “preferred” husband or wife; the other marriage and its children disappear. How Bargad draws a second marriage.
- Your mother’s sister’s daughter
- Your father’s brother’s son’s wife
Cousin marriage, and relatives related twice
Both relationships, in your family’s words.
Pooja is your cousin twice over. Bargad shows both, with the Hindi relation names (mauseri behen, bhabhi) if you want them.

Before you start
Questions families ask.
Is Bargad free?
Yes. You can build your tree, invite your family and share it without paying anything.
Who can see my family’s details?
Only the relatives the tree’s owner invites. A family link shows living relatives with their birth year only, and never shows photos of documents, gotra or native place.
Can it show remarriages, step-families and adoption?
Yes. Everyone’s partners appear side by side with the children of each, so nobody vanishes from the tree. Half-brothers and half-sisters, step-brothers and step-sisters, and adopted, foster and guardian children all have a place.
Can I bring my tree from Ancestry, MyHeritage or FamilySearch?
Yes. Download a GEDCOM file from there and open it in Bargad (it’s under “Bring your tree”). It’s read in your browser first, and nothing is saved until you choose. Photos aren’t part of GEDCOM files, so they don’t come across.
How do I make a family tree for a step-family or a second marriage?
Add each marriage to the same person; Bargad draws every partner side by side with the children of each. Half-brothers and half-sisters appear under their own parents, step-relations get the right names, and nobody has to be marked as the “preferred” spouse.
Is there a family tree app made for Indian families?
Bargad was made for one. Relation names can show in Hindi (chacha, tau, mama, mausi, bua, bhabhi), every card has room for a photo, gotra and native place, the week’s birthdays and anniversaries are listed, and a joint family of hundreds fits on one tree: a vanshavali you can send on WhatsApp, on any phone.
Does it work in Hindi?
Bargad is in English, and anyone can choose to see relationship names in Hindi (chacha, mama, bua, mausi and the rest) in their own settings.
What happens to our family’s data?
It’s never sold or shared, and never used to train AI. It’s deleted on request, and a tree’s owner can delete the tree at any time.
